Scriptures: Psalm 23:6 Psalm 107:7 Romans 8:28 Exodus 34:6 Hebrews 13:5 Psalm 51:1 Psalm 145:9 Galatians 5:22 1 Chronicles 16:34
In Psalm 23:6 we read “surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the lord forever”. What a wonderful thought this is - God’s goodness and mercy shall be with us every day of our lives. There is a song related to Psalm 23:6 and the words of this songs are as follows:
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days, all the days of my life,Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days, all the days of my life. And I shall dwell in the house of the lord forever. I shall feast at a table spread for me, Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.
Again, what an amazing thought, that all the days of our lives God’s goodness and mercy are with us. In one year, there are 365 days and in 10 years that would mean 3650 days. I have been a Christian now for over 30 years, that is an incredible 10,950 days that God’s goodness and mercy have been with me.
What then is Gods’ goodness and Mercy?
God’s goodness is pure, righteous and compassionate. This is demonstrated in our daily lives and actions. God’s mercy loves us and forgives us. In Hebrews 13:5 we read “Every day God will never leave us or forsake us, every day we may see the goodness and mercy of God but not recognize it”. Every step of the way God is always there. Goodness and mercy go hand in hand. One doesn’t work without the other. God’s goodness hugs you and God’s mercy forgives you, all the days of your life. Gods’ goodness and mercy are freely available to us. Psalm 107:1 says, “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever”. Mercy and goodness are two of the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22) and we need to give thanks daily for God’s goodness and mercy for us.
Once again in 1 Chronicles 16:34 we are reminded that his goodness, loving kindness, and mercy will follow us all the days of your lives. “Give thanks to the lord for he is good, and his mercy endures forever (1 Chronicles 16:34). As Christians we can be assured of the Lord’s grace, care, goodness and mercy each day that God has planned for us. God’s unfailing love, goodness, and mercy will be sufficient for what each day holds (Exodus 34:6, I Chronicles 16:34, Psalm 23:6, Psalm107 :1).
Prayer: Lord, we pray for understanding that Your goodness and mercy will be with us each day. We give thanks for Your daily goodness and mercy. Lord, we praise You for the scriptures in Your word to remind us of God’s Goodness and Mercy. In Jesus Name, Amen
