Colossians 3:17 Mathew 5:14-16 Luke 8:16-18 Mark 4:21-25 John 8:12 Psalm 27:1
When we switch on a light switch in our house, it brightens a room, and when the light is switched off the room goes darker. For a light switch to work you need power/electricity. As Christians for the Light of Jesus to shine out of us, we need the power of the Holy Spirit working within us.
The Oxford Dictionary describes light as a kind of radiation or brightness that allows things to be seen. In Mathew 5:15 we read “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl, indeed they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house”. God encourages us not to let our light for God be hidden, but to shine and radiate so people can see the Power and Presence of God within us. Common comments we may hear are: Shine your Light in the darkness; let the Light of Jesus shine within you and through you; let the Presence of God shine in you; and I see the Light of Jesus in your eyes.
As Christians the Light of Jesus is within us and shines through us. God doesn’t shut His Light from the rest of the world. In John 8:12, we read “I am the light of the world, whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the Light of Life”. The Light of our Lord in our lives can be taken into the darkness that surrounds this world today and thereforegive hope to others. When one is filled with the Presence of God, His light radiates from us and people are drawn to this Light.
When we follow Jesus, the One True Light, we can avoid walking blindly and falling into sin. He lights the path ahead of us so we can see how to live. Let the Light of our faith shine within us, through us, and out of us. This gives hope to others. Let the Presence of and Power of God radiate out of us. In Psalm 27:1 we read “The lord is my light and my salvation, of whom shall I be afraid”.
Prayer:
Lord please enable us to know Jesus as the Light of the world and, as we do,may we be able to share this Light with others. In Jesus Name Amen
