Scriptures: John 3:16 Philippians 4:19 Isaiah 26:3 Hebrews 13:5 Deuteronomy 31:8 Isaiah 41:10 Jeremiah 29:11 Philippians 4:4-7 Psalm 23:1 Psalm 27:1 John 13:34 2 Corinthians 5:17 Psalm 106:1 Romans 8:28 1 Chronicles 16:34 Matthew 11:28
In 2006 in one of the most challenging times in my life, I heard a voice say “I will not leave you or forsake you” and was given a scripture Deuteronomy 31:8 “the Lord goes before you and will be with you and he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged”. Since then I have never doubted that God is always with me and will never leave me or forsake me. This was a direct promise from God for me.
There is a song, and the chorus goes: Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God my Saviour Standing standing, standing on the promises of God.
What an amazing chorus this is “Standing on the promises of God our Saviour.” Standing on the promises God gives us so that we see our lives be transformed, refreshed, revitalised, and renewed through these promises that the Lord gives us. God gives us the exact promises we need for the situations and events that occur in our lives. There are so many promises in the Bible to guide and direct our lives, a man named Everet R Storms concluded that there are 8810 promises of God in the Bible, that is approximately 24 Bible promises a day.
The Psalms are just full of the promises of God. Psalm 106:1 praise the Lord, give thanks to the Lord. For he is good, his love endures forever. Psalm 23:1 the Lord is my shepherd and everything I need. Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear, the Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid. In John 3:16 we read: for God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Isaiah 26:3 God will keep us in perfect peace those whose minds are focused on him. These are but a sample of promises found in God’s word. Reading Gods word regularly will enable us to discover even more of God’s promise, and when the promises of God speak to us, we are able to receive these promises and believe they will be fulfilled.
Why Does God Give Us All Of These Promises In The Bible?
The Oxford dictionary defines a promise as a clarification statement or assurance that one will do something, or a particular thing will happen. A Christian Biblical promise is an assurance of salvation, of eternal life , of answered prayer, of forgiveness, and an assurance that God is always with us. God’s promises give us encouragement and guidance in our daily lives, He promises to strengthen us, give us rest, and take care of all or our needs. (Philippines 4:19, God will supply every need of ours according to his riches and glory in Christ). God’s promises can show us priorities for our lives, and lay a foundation for our faith. God gives us this amazing promise “Love one another as I have loved you, John 13:34” this promise enables us to share God’s love, joy, peace, compassion, and presence with others. Praise and glory to God for the promises in his word.
Prayer: Lord, I pray that each day we will all be reminded of the promises of God found in the Bible. Lord, I pray that we can seek God for the promises the Lord has for us for our lives. Please enable us to stand on the promises God has given us. Amen
