Joyful, Patient and Faithful

Jane

Scriptures: Romans 12:12 Romans 15:13 Isaiah 40:31 Psalm 25:5 Psalm 31:24

As a child I always had hope that one day I would become a Registered Nurse. God was faithful and I trained to become a Registered Nurse in 1991 when I was 30.

In Romans 12:12 we read; - “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayers”. There is a short message in this verse, and it is packed with action steps by which we can live,

  1.  Be Joyful in hope

  2. Patient in afflictions

  3. Faithful in prayer

While waiting to train as a Registered Nurse over the years, I believe I was joyful in my hope, patient in waiting for God’s perfect timing and faithful in prayer. Often, I sing a song that has the words, “my life is in you Lord my strength is in you Lord, my hope is in you Lord, it’s in you it’s in you”. My steadfast hope was in the Lord. Our steadfast hope can always be in the Lord.

WHAT DOES OUR STEADFAST HOPE IN THE LORD MEAN FOR US AS CHRISTIANS?

A settled trust in the unwavering faithfulness of God and a strong confidence in God’s faithfulness. To have hope no matter what we are facing in our lives. In Romans 15:13 we read, “may the God of hope, fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit”. In every season of our lives, as Christians we can have confidence that God will overflow us with hope, through the power of the holy spirit.

Isaiah 40:31 defines how we can hope in the Lord especially when life is hard. It reads as follows: - “those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary they will wall and not be faint”. A steadfast hope can give one strength in everyday situations and the challenging world in which we live. When trouble comes, we can be assured that God is our steadfast hope. (Romans 15;13, Isaiah 40:31, Psalm 31:24). God prompts us in Psalm 31:24 “be strong and take heart all you who hope in the Lord.” We can find steadfast hope in Christ our king, AMEN.

Prayer: Lord, we pray, let us greet each day with hope as we trust our Saviour. May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen
