Always at His Side

Scriptures: Proverbs 18:24 John 15:14 Psalm 16:6 Deuteronomy 31:6-8 Psalm 118:6 Psalm 23:1-3 (Good News Bible)

Margaret Fishback-Powers is the author of the world-famous Footprints poem written in 1967. In this poem there are two sets of footprints, one belongs to the person and the other belongs to God. The main theme of this poem is that God is always beside us, and that during any point in our lives we are never meant to feel alone. God will always be with us. We can always feel love and supported by our Lord no matter what is happening in our lives. The specific words from Footprints in the sand “My precious child I love you and will never leave you” reminds us that we are never alone; God is always with us and we are at the Saviour’s side. In Deuteronomy 31:8 we read “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged”. This scripture reminds us that God’s love carries us, and we are not alone the Saviour is always at our side. How wonderful that scripture reminds us we are at the Saviour’s side.

During our life’s journey we can rely on him for everything. Every step of the way our Lord is always there. In Psalm 23:1-3 (Good News Translation) we read “The Lord is my Shepherd; I have everything I need. He lets me rest in fields of green grass and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water. He gives me new strength and He guides me in the right paths as He has promised.“ What a comfort, what a hope and what amazing promises are in these verses. The Lord is our Shepherd and everything we need. The Lord gives us rest and strength. The Lord restores us and guides us in the paths of righteousness.

Again we are reminded in Deuteronomy 31:6 to be strong and courageous. To not be afraid for the Lord is always with you and will never leave you or forsake you. In Proverbs 18:24 God promises us “The Lord is closer than even a brother.” We read in Psalm 118:6 “the Lord is on my side. I will not fear what man can do to us”. These are a few scriptures reminding us that the Saviour is by our side. God is always by our side in every situation our lives 24 hours a day. We are at the Saviour’s side and the Saviour is at our side. God will carry us through no matter whatever trials and challenges we may face, or hills and valleys we may climb. God will never leave me and is always there. “I always remember that the Lord is with me, He is here, close by my side, so nothing can defeat me (Psalm 16:8)”

There is an old hymn, Side by Side We Stand, sung by the Heritage Singers and the first verse goes: Side by side we stand Waiting God's command Worshipping the saving King Living by His grace And moving out in faith Jesus will see us through. The above verse reminds us that whatever is happening in our life, our Saviour is at our side. Living by His grace and moving out in faith, Jesus our Saviour is always with us. It’s amazing how music can touch our soul, minister to us and speak volumes, especially music that echoes the Word of God.

PRAYER: Lord we pray that you will help us remember that You are always by our side, no matter what is happenning in our lives, in good and in challenging times. May we know that You will never leave us or forsake us and will always be by our side. Please help us to remember that the Saviour is always at our side. Amen
